As I said on Twitter. Frenk was of Croatian extraction whilst Al's ancestry is Serbian and Yankovic is the equivalent name to Johnson and Jackson So they weren't related. However Frankie being America's Polka King may have influenced Al's mother Mary when she was offered music lessons for her son and she chose accordion over guitar.
In later life Al and Frankie met and were friendly. There is video on YouTube "A Guide To The Grammies" in which they chat together and play a little. Al played on one of Frankie's albums FRANKIE YANKOVIC: SONGS OF THE POLKA KING VOL 1 (by Frank Yankovic & Friends)1996
(Al played on WHO STOLE THE KISHKA) (Cleveland International CD/CASS )
